Belong’s commitment to social justice and belief in the power of positive relationships to create lasting change matches my own. Their empathic, psychologically informed approach represents what I know to be best practice, offering hope where there might otherwise be none. I am so proud to be associated with Belong, all it staff, volunteers, and fellow trustees working to drive the kind of positive change we need to see across the criminal justice system.

He has spent the last 16 years at Neuberger Berman and prior to this worked at Coronation International and PricewaterhouseCoopers. Belong’s work appeals to me because it offers direct help within the Criminal Justice System to those who may have very few other opportunities for either solace or development in their lives and who may feel the door is closed to them. Belong’s work has demonstrably shown the clear benefits of an approach centred on empathy, psychological grounding and a belief in rehabilitation.

With a career rooted in promoting wellbeing, equitable practices and meaningful employee engagement, she is passionate about using data and lived experience to create environments where people can truly thrive.
Her decision to become a Trustee for Belong came from her lifelong commitment to justice and reform, shaped by her experience as a teenager having both her parents in custody. In 2023, she participated in an exhibition that told the stories of 30 women incarcerated in Holloway prison, challenging harmful stereotypes and highlighting the systemic cycles of trauma faced by individuals in the justice system. This involvement sparked a desire to contribute to rehabilitative interventions to help build a better criminal justice system.
Gemma finds fulfilment working with purpose-driven organisations that aim to improve lives. She believes in the power of small actions, especially when they’re part of a collective effort. Being a Trustee at Belong allows her to channel her passion into tangible, positive impact alongside a team she’s continually inspired by and learning from.
