Creativity behind bars can change lives. We have seen first hand how creativity can help people committed crime to process experiences of trauma, improve communication and conflict resolution skills, improve their mental and emotional well-being, and learn to express and manage difficult thoughts and feelings. Creativity behind bars doesn’t come without challenges, for both Practitioner and Prisoner.

Many creative tools aren’t allowed in prisons for security reasons. As a result, we have seen the most beautiful art pieces made with the most incredible methods. Story telling at the servery for prisoners working in kitchens; art pieces made from hundreds of toothpicks; poetry scribbled on the back of cereal packets.

Here is a selection of work made in recent years.
